Gas Fireplace Logs

Gas fireplace logs are available either vented or unvented.  By vented we mean vented to the outside of the home the same way a wood fireplace is vented.  Unvented logs are just that, not vented to the outside.  If you install gas fireplace logs in an existing masonry fireplace you will need to use the chimney for venting.  It is necessary to leave the damper open so you may want to install glass doors for when the fireplace is not in use.  You can leave the damper closed if you have unvented logs.

Gas fireplace logs are designed to look like real wood and are made from ceramic.  They are available in several different sizes and made to look like different types of wood.  You can buy sets of logs that you can configure the logs the way you want.  Gas logs produce a very realistic looking flame.

Most gas fireplace logs operate on a remote controlled system although others are available with wall switch controls or manual start pilot lights.  These controls allow you to vary the amount of flame and heat.  If you are considering installing these types of logs do some comparison shopping first as costs and quality can vary.
